In 1989, Marcus Whitfield Sr. left his job at a Raleigh HVAC supply house with $4,200, a used Chevy van, and a deeply unfashionable idea: that a home services company could grow by actually answering the phone.
36 years later, Cardinal Comfort Co. is the largest family-owned heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical service company in the Carolinas. We've grown from one truck to 84, from one trade to four, and from a single Raleigh garage to five locations across North and South Carolina - but Marcus Sr.'s rule still hangs above every dispatcher's desk:
"Pick it up by the third ring. Treat every caller like it's your mom on the line."
Today, Cardinal is led by Marcus Whitfield Jr., second-generation owner, alongside a leadership team of 14 - including operations veterans from Sila Services, ARS, and One Hour Heating & Air. We're proudly independent, fiercely local, and growing 22% year-over-year because we still answer the phone.
